Your Most Common Laser Hair Removal Questions Answered

If you are thinking about laser hair removal, you probably have a few questions. We use a machine called the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus. Here is how it works and what you should know before your first visit.

1. Do I need to shave before my appointment?

Yes. You should shave the area 12 to 24 hours before you come in.

• The Reason: The laser needs to reach the hair root under your skin. If the hair on top is too long, the laser will just burn the hair on the surface instead of hitting the root where it counts.

2. How often do I need to come in?

Usually, you will come in every 4 to 10 weeks.

• The Reason: It depends on which part of the body we are treating. Hair on the face grows fast, so those appointments are closer together. Hair on the legs grows slower, so those appointments are further apart.

3. Is it safe for all skin colors?

Yes. Our machine is made to work safely on all skin types, from very light to very dark. It uses special settings to make sure the skin stays safe while the hair is treated.

4. Does it work on thin "peach fuzz"?

Yes. While many lasers only work on thick hair, our machine is strong enough to see thin baby hairs, too. However, the hair still needs to have some color for the laser to find it.

5. Are there any hair colors it won't work on?

The laser looks for dark pigment to work. Because of this, it cannot treat these hair colors:

• White hair
• Grey hair
• Blonde hair

6. Does it hurt?

To make it more comfortable, our machine blows cold air using something called Cryogen. Right before the laser touches your skin, it puffs very cold air on the area. This helps keep the skin cool and calm during the treatment.

7. How many sessions will I need?

Most people need between 6 and 8 sessions. This is because hair grows in different stages, and the laser can only catch the hair that is currently growing.
