Why you have to shave before laser and what happens if you don't

Laser Hair Removal
A lot of people show up to their laser hair removal appointment thinking stubble is fine.
It's not. Here's why.
The laser targets the pigment in your hair.
When you shave, the hair shaft is gone — but the root is still there. The root is what we're actually trying to hit.
When the laser fires, the energy travels down the hair shaft straight to the follicle. That's where it does its job.
If you have stubble sticking up above the skin, the laser hits that first.
The energy gets used up on the part of the hair above the skin — the part we don't care about. Less energy reaches the follicle. The treatment is less effective.
Worse? The burnt stubble on the surface can cause more discomfort and skin irritation.
What about waxing or threading before your appointment?
Don't do it.
Waxing and threading pull the hair out by the root. No root = nothing for the laser to target. Your session would be a waste.
Shaving is the only pre-treatment that works. Keep the root, remove the shaft.
Here's the simple rule:
Shave the area being treated 24 hours before your appointment. Not the morning of — give your skin a little time to recover so it's not irritated during the session.
Laser hair removal works. It works really well.
But only when you prep correctly.
If you're not sure what to do before your appointment, just text us. We'd rather answer your question than have you show up and not get the best results.
