The Summer Skincare Rules Nobody Actually Follows (But Should)
June 25, 2026
Skincare
Summer is the season when people put the least effort into their skin and then wonder why their results from treatments have faded by September.
Let me save you that September conversation.
Rule 1: SPF 50 is non-negotiable. Full stop.
UV exposure is responsible for approximately 80% of visible skin aging. Not genetics. Not stress. The sun.
And in LA — you're getting UV through car windows. Through office windows. On a cloudy day (clouds block about 20% of UV; the other 80% gets through just fine).
SPF 50, broad-spectrum, every morning. Reapply every 2 hours if you're outside.
Tinted SPF is even better — the iron oxides in tinted formulas block visible light, which is a separate trigger for melasma that regular SPF misses entirely.
Rule 2: Summer is maintenance season, not transformation season.
If you've been doing treatments this spring — the progress is real. Summer is when you protect that progress.
Heavy resurfacing in summer heat? Save it for fall.
Now, can you still do microneedling, laser facials, and laser hair removal in summer? Yes — but you need to be more careful than usual.
Microneedling requires 3 days of no sun exposure after your session. Plan your appointment around your calendar so those 3 days are covered.
For laser hair removal specifically — underarms, bikini, and Brazilian are completely fine in summer since those areas are covered anyway. For exposed areas like legs, arms, and face — you need 2 weeks of no sun exposure before your session AND 2 weeks after. Sunscreen is not enough. If you've been in the sun, we need to reschedule. This is non-negotiable.
You don't need to pause your treatments. You just need to be really diligent about protection. Hold up your end and your skin will thank you in September.
Rule 3: Sweat is your skin barrier's nemesis.
Sweat + makeup + sunscreen + heat = breakouts and congestion.
Double cleanse at night in summer. An oil-based cleanser first, then a gentle water-based cleanser. Don't skip this step.
Rule 4: Hydrate from the inside out.
Hydrated skin heals faster, tolerates treatments better, and just looks better. In LA heat, you need more water than you think you do.
The honest summary: summer is not the enemy of great skin. Neglect is.
The clients who come out of summer looking as good as they went in follow these rules consistently.
It's not complicated. It's just consistent.
